Program Description

CareerWise is New Beginnings’ integrated employment services program designed to support youth and young adults facing barriers to employment in securing meaningful and sustainable jobs. The program provides employment readiness training, individualized case management, and connections to local employers. CareerWise helps clients develop skills, access training, and find long-term employment or return to school, and helps meet the needs of local businesses and communities through a locally-responsive, client-centered, and outcome-focused system.

Key Services Offered

  • Individualized employment assessments and action planning

  • Job readiness and comprehensive pre-employment training

  • Resume writing, interview preparation, and job search assistance

  • Access to short-term training and certification (e.g., Smart Serve, WHMIS, First Aid)

  • Job matching, with placement support

  • Mentorship, and on-the-job coaching

  • Wraparound support to address employment barriers, including counselling with employment support social workers

  • Employer outreach and retention support

Target Population

  • Youth/Young adults aged 18-29 experiencing multiple/complex barriers, including:

    • Youth in or transitioning from care

    • At-risk or justice-involved youth

    • Racialized, newcomer, and LGBTQIA2S+ youth

    • Youth experiencing mental health, housing, or educational barriers

Referral Pathways

  • Self-referral

  • Internal referrals, community agencies, and schools

  • Children’s Aid Societies, youth workers, and probation officers

  • Ontario Works/Ontario Disability Support Program as assigned by the Windsor Regional Employment Network

Program Goals/Outcomes

  • Increase job readiness and confidence

  • Improve outcomes for local employers

  • Improve access to employment and training opportunities

  • Support sustainable employment and/or return to school

  • Build transferable skills and career pathways

  • Reduce unemployment and underemployment
