Program Description

The Sober Living Post-Secondary Student Residence is a 12-bedroom supportive housing residence for youth and young adults pursuing post-secondary education while actively working on and committed to recovery and/or sobriety from substance use and/or mental health challenges. Reasons for a commitment to a sober lifestyle ranges from health & wellness, religious/cultural beliefs, or recovery from addiction. This unique program provides safe, substance-free living with wraparound supports to help students achieve personal stability, academic success, and independent living skills.

Target Population

  • Youth and young adults (approximately ages 18–29) enrolled in college or university programs

  • Individuals committed to sobriety and/or in recovery from substance use and/or managing mental health challenges

  • Students with limited family support or housing insecurity

Referral Pathways

  • Self-referral from students

  • Referrals from post-secondary support services

  • Community-based referrals (e.g., addiction recovery centres, caseworkers, shelters)

  • Internal referrals from other New Beginnings programs

Program Goals/Outcomes

  • Provide stable, substance-free housing for students

  • Support academic achievement and retention in post-secondary education

  •  Promote mental wellness, recovery, and healthy life skills

  • Build a sense of community and peer connection among residents

  • Prepare youth for independent living and long-term success
